Alice May Skellie Miller

We love you Alice May!Alice M. Miller, 94, died on May 17, 2012 at her home in Hattiesburg.

Visitation was held at Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home, May 20. Funeral services were held at University Baptist Church, May 21. Mrs. Miller, the daughter of Fred and Elaine Skellie, was born in 1918 in Long Beach, MS. Alice May graduated from Gulf Park College and completed her studies in English at Mississippi State College for Women. She taught high school in Drew, MS before working for the Mississippi Employment Service in Gulfport, MS.

Alice May married David Miller, Jr. in 1943. After David completed his dental studies in Memphis, TN, the couple moved to Hattiesburg in 1951 where David established his practice. Alice May was a loving wife and mother of four children. She was an active member of First Baptist Church where she served in many roles including Sunday school teacher, Leader of the International Students Program and founding member of the Intercessory Prayer Mission. For 13 summers, she joined David on a mission trip to Presidio, TX where she translated for his patients.

She was an avid sports fan and gardener and frequently accompanied David on fishing trips. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. David Miller, Jr. Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Miller Sabin (Jim) of Hattiesburg; three sons, Dr. David Miller, III (Nancy) of Nashville, TN, Dr. Gilbert A Miller (Minnie) of Barnwell, SC, and Fred H. Miller (Stephanie) of Wheaton, IL; a sister Anne Herrington of Marshall, TX, a brother, Fred Skellie of Decatur, GA; grandchildren, Elizabeth Sabin Carden, David Sabin, Megan Miller, Erin Miller, Corrina Miller, Jesse Miller, Anona Miller, Bonnie Miller, Jack Miller, Noah Miller.

Memorials may be made to the University Baptist Church Library Fund.

    What love Aunt Alice May had for her family and all of us! Her sweet smile, her soft voice, and her Sunday pancakes are some of my loved memories.
    We love her and all of the Millers. Kenny, Ronnie, and I will be in Hattiesburg Sunday.
